4 Simple Ways to Stay Hydrated This Summer

It doesn’t matter if you are a serious athlete or exercise for fun, drinking water and staying hydrated are very important for your body. And if you are exercising in the heat of summer, you will need to step-up your hydration routine even more. Any time you exercise in extreme heat you need to replenish you’re your fluids and electrolytes at a much greater rate than during a normal workout to prevent muscle fatigue, weakness and dehydration.

Adequate hydration not only keeps your core temperature at a safe level so that you don’t overheat or dehydrate, but it also allows nutrient transport throughout your body to give you the energy you need during your workouts. Depending on your diet and level of athleticism, about 25% of your water intake comes from food, especially fruits and veggies, so athletes should increase their intake to help their bodies stay strong.

So with the dog days of summer fast approaching, here are four simple tips to stay hydrated during your workouts.

1.     Eat your fruits and veggies. According to Dr. Oz, eating water-rich foods like vegetables, fruits, you’ll automatically up your fluid intake. Especially hydrating are leafy greens which contain Chlorophyll. An emerging “superfood,” Chlorophyll will help you stay hydrated and energized while exercising in the summer heat.

2.     Always carry a water bottle with you. If you are exercising in the heat, having a water bottle with you to fill up or to sip from when you get thirsty will help you from becoming dehydrated. Keep one at the gym, on your bike, or in your car to be sure you don’t have to wait post-workout to have a drink.

3.     Wake up to hydrate. If you are an athlete, hydration well before you work out in extreme heat is key. Start your morning off by drinking a glass of water as soon as you get up. This will not only rehydrate your system after a night’s sleep, but it will also jumpstart your hydration for the workout ahead.

4.     Drink infused water.  As you exercise, your metabolism and your internal body temperature increase. New products on the market like Verday Chlorophyll Water not only help you

to hydrate, but they also provide the anti-oxidant power necessary to recharge from the heat. Verday contains 100mg of Chlorophyll; more than 2 shots of wheatgrass, 4 cups of spinach, or 12 cups of arugula helping your body recover faster from the heat.
